Jay Cromarty

Jay has over 40 years of experience in managing investment management, wealth advisory and private banking businesses domestically and internationally, from large global firms to small start-ups. Prior to joining Barrington in 2011, Jay was CEO of the Wealth Advisory and Investment Management Groups at Boston Private Financial Holdings, Inc., with responsibility for the company’s ten wealth advisory and investment management affiliates focused on HNW, institutional and broker/dealer markets. As well as serving on the boards of the individual affiliates, he was a director of BPFH’s flagship subsidiary, Boston Private Bank & Trust Company.

Prior to Boston Private, Jay was President of State Street Global Alliance, a strategic- venturing, multi-affiliate asset management firm jointly owned by State Street and ABP (the Dutch civil servants’ pension fund) where he developed several innovative and alternative institutional asset management firms globally. Jay was also the Managing Director of Sales and Marketing for the $15 billion AUM HNW business that State Street subsequently sold to U.S. Trust Company.

Jay began his career at The Boston Company in a variety of roles encompassing the private banking and institutional investment businesses. Along with several colleagues from The Boston Company, Jay was part of the founding group of executives at PanAgora Asset Management, an asset management firm that grew from $200 million in AUM to $15 billion in five years.

Jay holds a BS in Economics from the University of Maine, where he is a member of the Board of Visitors and a director of the Advisory Board to the Maine Business School. He also was awarded a MBA from Babson College.
